For our family room, this piece turned out to be a better fit than the more elaborate options I considered.
When I look at the main sitting area as a whole, I had been overthinking this part of the room; this table solved the visual problem more simply than I expected. It has enough presence to matter without making the whole room revolve around it. What surprised me was how much the surrounding furniture benefited visually, especially when I look at the room as a whole. I would make the same decision for the main sitting area again.
