A week into living with it, I like how the sideboard supports the dining room without taking over. My partner was unsure at first, but likes the room much more now. I am pleased with the decision.
As part of the room refresh, this sideboard ended up being the piece that made the open dining area finally click.
For ordinary weekdays, this sideboard has made the open dining area feel easier and more finished. Nothing about it feels fussy in day-to-day use. It works nicely when we have people over. I can see this staying in the room even if we change some of the surrounding pieces later. For us, it was the right call.
From the doorway, the breakfast room has a better sense of balance now that this dining room piece is part of it.
