For the mood we wanted in our dining room, I kept the rest of this room simple, and the sideboard gives the space just enough presence. I did not need to change the rest of our dining room for the sideboard to make sense there. It helped the dining area feel like a complete room rather than just a table and chairs. The sideboard is a choice I am happy to keep living with.
I notice the sideboard most during the ordinary parts of the day, which is probably the best compliment I can give it.
In our day-to-day setup, we use the room all the time, and this credenza has fit into that routine without making the space feel precious. I was aiming for an update that would still feel comfortable day to day, and the rest of the furniture makes more sense around it. The look has a little more visual presence than I pictured, but it ended up working for the room.
