In the finished room, I had a hard time deciding what this room was missing, and this table turned out to be the answer.

From across my sitting room, this table gives the arrangement a clearer sense of balance.

Compared with the room before, I chose the piece because I liked it, but the fact that everyone else responded well was a nice bonus. Nobody treats the room like a showroom, and the piece still looks right in real life. It stands out just enough and still lets the rest of the room do its job. What surprised me was how much calmer the room seemed, especially when I see it from the doorway. Even a simple evening on the sofa feels a bit more pulled together with it there. I would make the same decision for our living room again.
