In the overall arrangement, I wanted the house to feel lived in rather than staged, and this sideboard works well with that idea. It stands out just enough and still lets the rest of the room do its job.
As a piece of the overall room, I had a hard time deciding what the room was missing, and the credenza turned out to be the answer.
We finished decorating our living area just before a housewarming, and this credenza ended up being the detail everyone noticed. It was satisfying to see the room finally match the way I had pictured it.
The room now gets the kind of compliments that sound like people actually noticed the whole space. I like how this sideboard gives our dining room a clearer point of view without taking over. Our dining room feels better as a whole, which matters more to me than any single detail.
