My first impression was good, but the console table makes even more sense after seeing it in the hallway every day. I have already stopped thinking of it as the new piece, which is probably the best compliment. It works nicely as the first piece you see when you walk in. It is noticeable enough to add character, but not so noticeable that everything else has to match it. I would happily choose it again for the same space.
Thinking about everyday use, the console table fits the hallway better than something more formal would have. I was looking for a change I would notice every day, and this has been exactly that.
